Apologies.

Captain Beefheart: Trout Mask Replica

Probably the best known of all of Beefheart's albums, Trout Mask Replica is well regarded as one of the most experimental "rock" albums ever made, and was described by critics as an album that most conceptual artists would "get". At first, this album may seem to be extremely poorly organised with the vocals out of time with the rest of the band, all the instruments playing out of key and the lyrics meaning nothing beyond pure madness. It's got some very lo-fi production to-boot.
Upon repeated listens the patterns emerge and you realise this album is the aural equivalent of a Dali masterpiece; perhaps not traditionally nice to look at, devoid of any rhyme or reason and incredibly playful. But like a Dali painting it also displays an incredible technical prowess, although never for the sake of it (keep in mind this entire album was written out by Beefheart in musical notation). Funny that Beefheart makes reference to Dali with the track "Dali's Car".

With this album Beefheart has created his own musical language. If you laugh the first time you hear this album; good. Humour and absurdity are an important part of Beefheart's music.
Regardless of what your favourite type of music is, I'd still reccommend this album as it transcends most catagorization. All you need is an open mind and Trout Mask Replica could change your perspective on music.
Tough but rewarding.

Alan Watts

I figured I'd post something really out there this time.

This man is Alan Watts. He's a philosopher who combines Eastern and Western Philosophy with scientific knowledge. He really puts things in perspective. He's funny, and he never preaches. He just voices his view on things.

12 discs, 14 hours at 32Kps.

Honestly, this guy has changed my perspective on so much in life, definitely worth your time.
Can't recommend it enough.

Don't worry, I'll get back to posting Jazz Fusion soon enough.

How To get free music n' shit

Just thought I should make some sort of guide for those unfamiliar to blogs. It's all free, no scam.

All files I upload are in .rar format. To get the music out, download WinRAR (WinRAR x86 (32 bit) 3.80 assuming you're running windows) or 7z (http://www.7-zip.org/).

Open the .rar file using either of these and extract the files (drag and drop is fine) to wherever you want them.

Easy enough.

Enjoy.

This is probably one of my favourite albums ever. It's a kind of experimental post-jazz sonic experiment. Structurally, it's unlike anything else I've ever heard.

Roscoe Holcomb: The High Lonesome Sound

It's bluegrass time. This guy is fanastic. This is the sort of "old man sitting on his porch" music, that you can never really find. I'm sure his voice isn't to everyone's tastes, but there's something honest and genuine in his style.
Worth a download for sure.

Captain Beefheart: Ice Cream For Crow

The last album Don Van Vliet (Beefheart) made before heading into a successful abstract painter. While I don't think it's quite as good as Trout Mask Replica, it'd be the one I'm more inclined to sit back and listen to. Far less abrasive and far cleaner production.
Next to Trout Mask Replica, it's my favourite.

Meshuggah: Chaosphere

Probably some of the heaviest stuff ever. Again, if you are a fan of complex rhythmic structure and you're willing to put some time in to get past the abrasive aesthetic, then you are in for one serious treat.
Have an open mind, there have been respectable Music Theory Journals written on the rhythmic  intricacy of this band.

Some people criticise I for sounding "samey" or having little variation, but I think that it really suits the mechanised, industrial feel of the album. Besides, what you're here for is the aural gymnastics and Polymetres that Meshuggah have perfected, not pretty sounds.
This is definitive Meshuggah.

Sage Francis: Personal Journals

I thought I'd throw you a curve ball here. I've mostly been posting Metal/jazz (mostly jazz) so I decided what this blog needed was some Hip-Hop.
Closer to William S. Burroughs than Dr. Dre, Sage Francis is a lyrical genius. He abstains from drugs and alcohol and writes incredibly self-aware and intelligent Hip-Hop. Really worth your time, even if you don't like Rap.
In fact, I reckon this album could change your mind if you do.

Sun Ra: The Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra

This guy was an eccentric genius. He claimed to have been abducted by aliens, far before the concept had hit the mainstream. Perhaps he was insane, but at the same time this experience influenced him to write some pretty far out jazz, for his time.

Return to Forever: Where I Have Known You Before

Return to forever are a seminal Jazz fusion band. In my opinion, not quite as good as Weather Report, but close. They have a sound far closer to Post-bop than Weather Report so perhaps this could appeal to those who like a little more progressive sound in their fusion. Odd instrumentation galore.

Storm and Stress: Under Thunder and Fluorescent Light

Free-jazz for those who like math-rock. My favourite guitarist in the world, Ian Williams, is the primary force behind this. He previously was guitarist for Don Caballero and is currently with avant-kraut group Battles. His style is distinctly his own, despite hoards of imitators in the math-rock scene. This album comes highly recommended.

1 The Sky's The Ground, The Bombs Are Plants, And We're The Sun, Love (4:45)

George Gershwin: Best Of/Gershwin Plays Gershwin

These, I think, are the two best releases from the man himself, George Gershwin. I don't think anyone before or since has created such a flawless fusion of Jazz and Classical.
